Abstract/Summary
There are several models of the maintenance of OCD which implicate cognitive factors. In this chapter a number of cognitive features of patients with OCD are considered. Cognitive treatment starts by considering the nature of thoughts in general before considering more OCD specific cognitions. The development of an individualized formulation indicates which cognitions need to be addressed using experiments, discussion and other methods for promoting change. As treatment progresses the formulation changes to fit the remaining issues, until the OCD is at a level where it no longer interferes with the young person’s life.
